Adam Mouak is a PhD and Master’s student in Civil Engineering at the University of Kansas. He conducts research focusing on the repair and retrofit of concrete dam structures using fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs). His area of expertise is in the material characterization and environmental durability of FRPs, contributing to one of the department’s largest and most collaborative projects. In this role, Adam leads a team of student hourly research assistants, at times nearly 20 strong, while working alongside faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and fellow graduate students.
During his time in graduate school, Adam was awarded the prestigious ACI Foundation Concrete Practitioner Fellowship as well as the Madison and Lila Self Memorial Scholarship. His academic journey began with an Associate of Applied Science in Engineering Graphics Technology, earned with Highest Distinction from Butler County Community College. He went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering at the University of Kansas, graduating with Highest Distinction, University Honors, and a minor in Mathematics. In recognition of his excellence, Adam was named one of KU Engineering’s 2022 Most Outstanding Seniors, an honor awarded to just one student in each engineering discipline.
Outside of academics and research, Adam is an avid learner who enjoys exploring new ideas and skills. In his free time, he can often be found golfing, reading, or enjoying the outdoors. When he’s not doing any of those, he’s likely spending time with his golden retriever, Phoebe.
